Determine the Future of Electoral Reform in BC - Your Participation is Crucial!
Announcing Fair Voting BC's Annual General Meeting on September 19th
in Vancouver; webcast will likely be available for out-of-town
participants.
A Time for Action
With a looming fall federal election that is likely to produce
either no significant change or perhaps the least justified majority
government in Canadian history, now is a great time to join with other
electoral reformers from around BC to plan how we can bring about a
fairer and more democratic future.
Your Attendance is Critical
Your attendance at the FVBC Annual General Meeting on September 19th is crucial. In
addition to electing a new slate of directors, you will be deciding two
critical issues there:
1. What are the best opportunities for promoting electoral reform
and where should we be putting our energies? Should we be working on
civic electoral reform, federal reform, NGO elections, public
education, legal challenges, starting a new political party, etc? How
can we build on the increase in public awareness we now have following
the recent referendum?
2. What form should FVBC itself take? Should we shift to being a
network of local chapters, merge with Fair Vote Canada, or dissolve
altogether in order to work with other organizations on related issues?
All Are Welcome
These decisions you make will determine how effective we will be bringing
reform to pass in BC. Please make sure your voice is heard, either by
coming to the meeting in person, or by letting us know that you'd like
to participate electronically. Note that you don't have to be a member
to participate - there will be an opportunity to become a member at the
door or on-line, and you can request a fee waiver if you would like (we
don't want financial considerations to dissuade anyone from
participating).
How to Register
If you're planning to come, please either register at
http://fvbcagm.eventbrite.com or send Arjun Singh
a note (fullworld@gmail.com). If you can't come to Vancouver in person
but would like to participate on-line and/or by phone, or if you would
like to volunteer to help out in any way, please let Arjun
know.
The conference itself is free, but the venue (St. Helen's Anglican
Church) invites donations towards the room costs (suggested donation is
$5-10/person). Note that parking is free and the venue is within two
blocks of the Sasamat stop on the 99B line bus.
